Create a time capsule and save it for the future!
Let’s think about the future and about how time impacts our life. In this activity you’re creating a capsule to hold something really special inside, keep it in a safe place and reopen it in the future!
Materials
See some suggestions:
Look for objects that are meaningful to you, such as:
- A picture you love
- A toy you used to play with a lot
- A box or other container that can be used as a capsule
Or you can just use:
- Paper
- Pen
- Pieces of newspaper
Steps
Here’s an example of how to do the activity:
1. Imagine!
Have you ever thought about time travel? When you think about the future, what memories would you like to take with you? What is important nowadays that you would like to remember or relive tomorrow?
2. Create!
Pick the items you’ll save in your time capsule. It could be a picture, a letter to be read in the future, a list of things you like, a drawing of the outline of your hand, pieces of today’s newspaper… Use anything you consider important but that you won’t miss right now.
Make the capsule using materials you find at home, like a cardboard box, a plastic cup or any other material you can imagine!
Send it to your “future self” by putting it inside the container you created (a cardboard box, a plastic jar…). Label it as “____’s time capsule” and write your name and the date in it. If you want, you can decide in advance for how long your to seal your capsule before you reopen it. Look for a cool place to hide your capsule. It could be the back of a closet or anywhere you can forget about it.
3. Share!
Send your friends and family a picture of you holding your capsule before putting it away. You could also tell them what kind of objects you’d like to see in the future! Spend some quality time with your loved ones and ask them what they’d keep in a time capsule and why.

Invite more people to make time capsules with you! People at home, classmates you talk to on social media…Everyone can have a nice surprise waiting for them in the future!
