Help your friends understand the importance of prevention and social distancing to protect themselves from COVID-19
In these times of separation, it’s really important that everyone contributes to prevention so that we can go back to our routine. A good campaign with tips and information can help many people stay safe and find cool activities to do during lockdown.
Have you ever thought about all the different ways you can give a message to someone? Improv singing is one of them because it allows you to play with rhythm and rhyme while you share an idea or information. How about creating an improv song to share with your friends and invite them to join in?
If you want to step it up, you can also make a musical instrument to mark the beat like a rattle, a tambourine or any other instrument you can think of.
So…let’s get going!
Materials
- An App to record and share audios, for example, https://vocaroo.com/, a free website that enables online recording through PCs and Smartphones without the need of logging in. You can also share your audio on social media and text message Apps.
- Pencil and paper to make a draft of your improv song.
Steps
Look at an example of how to do this activity:
1. Imagine!
Have you ever heard an improv song? The first step is listening to different kinds of improv songs in our culture and get inspired before the creative moment. You can surf the Internet to research and watch videos. Ask your family members what they know about improv songs and if they have any ideas. How could you talk about prevention and good lockdown practices through an improv song?
2. Create!
It’s time to get started, play with verses, rhythms and rhymes. You can draft your first ideas on a piece of paper before recording, or you can improv and let your ideas flow like music. If you need a musical instrument, use the materials you separated in advance. Use an audio recorder to record your songs. You can use the tool we recommended or any other you like, on your PC or your Smartphone.
3. Share!
Your message is ready, let’s share! How about sending your improv song to your friends and family through a text message App? Invite them to listen and challenge them to create their own songs and share those with you. You can talk about the same subject or choose a different one to play with the rhymes. What do you think?
